A discussion about Music Awards in general, especially regarding diversity.
Music culture can be a unifying force and cultural exchange is part of pop culture's DNA. Musical globalisation has very much increased in recent years with African music, Latin music and K-pop, for example, regularly featuring in charts worldwide.
While the political world seems to be de-globalising at the moment, music basically knows no borders.
Samoan-Australian music journalist (and Anchor Award Board member) Sosefina Fuamoli champions emerging artists, Australian music and believes in a diverse music culture that is conscious of amplifying voices from different walks of life. She will host a talk with Aria Nejati and Len Brown.
Len Brown is here explain the ever-changing Grammy categories and why it makes sense for anyone who wants to be represented at the ‘most prestigious and significant awards in the music industry worldwide’ (Wikipedia) to become a member of the Recording Academy.
Aria Nejati is a music media personality, having interviewed artists from all over Europe, Africa and the Americas. He has spoken at Harvard, is Apple’s Head of Hip-Hop in GSA and consistently vocal about the German music industry’s lack of representation.
