Melodies and beats pelt down on your ears and body like a warm summer rain when García Picasso brings one of his carefully curated live sets to the stage. The Spanish singer and DJ represents a decidedly genderless understanding of art that considers the assumption of gender-specific characteristics in life and music to be obsolete. As a result, Picasso’s tracks sound neither feminine nor masculine, neither simply soulful nor simply ecstatic or adventurous. It’s ‘genderless music’, as he describes it himself. The sound combines diverse characteristics that only appear contradictory at first superficial glance into a colourful mixture that transcends compositional and cultural conventions. With singles such as ‘Beso Pagao’ (2021) and ‘Solo Soy’ (2023), García Picasso developed a sensual, unmistakable sound early on that made him a stylish insider tip between his two favourite cities of Granada and Berlin. However, it was with his debut album, ‘Meninas’ (2024), that he became known to a wider audience, especially online. It’s high time he finally came to Hamburg.
