Wah Wah Wah
Suhyun Kim actually just wanted to find out if he could play, record and produce a song all by himself and release it on his own label. But once he got into his own personal flow state, the process gained a momentum of its own - three months later, the debut album ‘Oh, wow!’ (2021) was in the can and released onto the world stage without further ado. The response wasn’t long coming. The multi-instrumentalist, responsible for everything on this album save for a few harmonica sections, succeeded in creating one of the most exciting unplanned psychedelic rock albums in recent South Korean music history. Kaleidoscope aesthetics, free-floating pedals and some mad drum antics, confidently presented effect tornadoes: as Wah-Wah-Wah, the guy really adds a flavour to every essential ingredient for an intoxicating sound cocktail. With his latest album “Burnt Crispy Beats” (2024), the eccentric all-rounder also gambols his way through the Seoul underground to the pinnacles of East Asian guitar music and has now also brought three talented fellow musicians on board. The result: wacky DIY rock with an LSD look. Perfect for a vigorous night in St Pauli.
