KiLLOWEN
When times turn a bit grim again, therapy can help. Some sit in a treatment room, others in a pub. Over nine tracks on his debut EP ‘Pub Therapy’ (2023), Killowen shows which group he belongs to and navigates through a tangle of themes that tries to capture all aspects of the postmodern attitude to life. It is all about intimate diary entries with a universal message, the gnawing triviality of the 9-to-5 lifestyle, the course set by platonic and romantic relationships. Drawing on soul and dub, spoken word poetry and UK garage, Killowen transforms these themes into a special brand of coming-of-age trip. At times ambitious and optimistic, then leaning back and reflecting, the multi-instrumentalist and pub poet raps his way through exquisitely produced tracks full of emotion and instantly vibrant melodies on his latest EP ‘Six Missed Calls’ (2025). Having already gained a wider audience in the UK through performances at the likes of the Reading & Leeds Festival, he's still something of in secret in this country. That could change very soon.
