Since the release of her first singles, ‘Higher Ground’ (2018) and ‘Wicked Rhythm’ (2019), Hilde Skaar has established herself as an ambitious young talent in the Norwegian music world. The singer–songwriter quickly made a name for herself thanks to her strong voice and anthemic compositions, earning praise from the press as well as the corresponding awards and nominations. Spellemannprisen, The Bendiksen, the P3 Gull Award – there’s hardly an award that SKAAR hasn’t ticked off the list, and her awe-inspiring live performances show exactly why. Success was quick to come but soon became a burden, which is why the musician withdrew for a while and gathered mental and creative strength. In 2023, she packed everything into her debut album, ‘Mad Woman’, which was released in two parts and revealed the full depth of her still-young creativity. This sound expands between pulsating synth pads, powerful vocals, and a decidedly self-arranged instrumentation that is at once electropop, indie, and emancipatory pop design. The fact that she subsequently went on tour with Tori Amos, is now one of Norway’s most popular singers, and is already working on new song material shows one thing above all: This is an artist we will fortunately be hearing a lot more of in the future.
