Getdown Services
Somewhere between the European disco sounds of the eighties, a humorous dance-punk revival, and quirky post-punk vibes, Getdown Services have created a quasi-impossible style. The style-conscious and style-breaking duo is part of the vibrant Windmill Scene, which has formed in recent years around the legendary pub of the same name in Brixton and has helped Squid and Georgie Greep to fame alongside Black Midi and Black Country, New Road. The eclectic recipe of Getdown Services fits perfectly into the picture and can be savoured in all its facets on the group’s debut album, ‘Crisps’ (2023). From ultra-danceable songs to atmospheric retro anthems to stomping goosebumps, the dudes from Bristol master the whole range of typical British convention-breaking and celebrate their sound with delightful excess. This year’s new EP, ‘Primordial Slot Machine’, doesn’t detract from the ride across all genres. On the contrary: Getdown Services have just entered the next stage of escalation and will be celebrating with a historic gig in Hamburg.
