Just Mustard
These are fucked-up times in which we live and suffer – at least that much is certain for Just Mustard. The 2018 debut of the five-piece group from Dundalk, Ireland – entitled ‘Wednesday’ – caused jaws to drop amongst everyone who had ever wanted a tasty combination of the Cocteau Twins with Siouxsie And The Banshees and My Bloody Valentine. It shouldn’t be possible. But it is. Very much so! Gothic post-punk, dreamy pop escapades, ethereal wave vibes, post-industrial drums, shoegaze, noise, yesterday, today, tomorrow: Everything comes into its own in Just Mustard’s sound without the more hardcore songs such as ‘Deaf’, ‘Frank’, and ‘I Am You’ unravelling in the process. Indeed, all those lucky enough to have experienced their legendary performance at the 2019 Reeperbahn Festival have been able to confirm as much. What’s more, the group consistently developed this amalgam further on their second album, ‘Heart Under’ (2022), and have rightly received the highest praise by critics. So, it’s high time they played their second gig with us.
