Forget rigid scene codes and worn-out guitar clichés — we’re bringing you pure artistic freedom, an unstoppable DIY ethos, and absolute bangers.

The quartet Hiqpy delivers the sound of the moment with their debut album — aptly described as the “love child of The Strokes, Nirvana, Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande” and an absolute must-see live act. Straight from Australia, Playlunch bring their outrageously danceable mix of synth-pop, funk, and comedy, while Lauren Auder creates the perfect backdrop for their hauntingly dark voice with a massive orchestral sound somewhere between post-rock and soul. That indie today can just as easily mean jazz is proven by the underground collective Sonic Interventions. Awarded the German Jazz Prize as “Newcomer of the Year,” they fuse hip-hop and trap-house with global rhythms. Things turn electronic, dark, and utterly hypnotic with TR/ST, who are set to shake the Kiez with their gripping synth-pop.
Just how far an uncompromising DIY attitude can take you is demonstrated by shame: emerging from London’s pub scene and among our very first ANCHOR nominees back in 2016, they now return to us as a globally celebrated post-punk institution.
And the fact that this kind of musical evolution can happen at all is thanks to the trailblazers who have always shattered every genre boundary: Alexis Taylor combines synth-pop and rock just as elegantly solo as he does with Hot Chip, while psychedelic icon Sonic Boom (of Spacemen 3) continues to pull the strings behind cult bands such as MGMT and Beach House as an influential mastermind behind the scenes.
