Today’s confirmations see the concert line-up grow to 149 acts, once again demonstrating the diversity and relevance of the 20th Reeperbahn Festival. The hip-hop section in particular boasts some impressive new additions: With Lugatti, FRISO, Charlize, BABYJOY and Shogoon, the new announcement injects fresh energy into an already strong rap line-up that already includes names such as Ahzumjot, RapK, Donna Savage, Juno030, 6euroneunzig and sarah4k. The current line-up also has a lot more to offer: Yukimi, Twin Tribes, David Bay and Laura Lee & The Jettes are just a few of the 35 new acts that expand the programme stylistically from post-punk to house to indie rock.
Yukimi, known to many as the singer of art-pop band Little Dragon, is stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist for the first time and will be presenting songs from her recently released debut album ‘For You’ at the Reeperbahn Festival, whose minimalist sound combines influences from jazz to hip-hop, roots dub to psychedelia and electronic pop.
Lugatti masters the rap game in all its forms, skilfully linking the biographical with the social and delivering confident battle tracks and socially critical conscious hip hop straight from the German rap underground to the Reeperbahn Festival stage.
Under the name Twin Tribes, multi-instrumentalists Luis Navarro and Joel Niño stylishly celebrate the dark side of the post-punk revival, while constantly expanding their nostalgic goth and coldwave sound with unexpected synth and guitar sounds, as shown on their latest album ‘Pendulum’.
With his unerring flair for combining creative samples, beats and melodies, David Bay delivers non-stop bangers like ‘Highroll’ and ‘<3 beat’, tracks that are now fixtures on the sound cards of clubs from Paris to the Balearic Islands.
Known as one half of the duo Gurr, Laura Lee & The Jettes have succeeded in bringing the sound of guitar bands such as Dinosaur Jr., Courtney Barnett and the Breeders into the present day on their albums ‘Wasteland’ and the recently released ‘Tough Love Paradigm’ – with growing international success.
